Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
