Just as bad weather swept through the north-west the night before, the home side blew United away at the their home ground. It was a performance that truly announced their championship potential as they reinforced their place at the top of the table.

This scoreline marked successive Women's Super League losses for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a significant margin off the top team with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Manchester United's ability to manage league and European football with a limited squad has been a hotly discussed subject since they earned a place in the Champions League.
